Blog #6- Silent questions

3. The neighborhood that I have grown up in is small. Many people have come and gone. My neighbors have never stayed the same. There is only about 40 houses in my neighborhood; which is a mobile home park. It is a welcoming place, although there is not much to it. There are a lot of young kids; but not to many older kids my age. My neighbors are very kind and caring and are a little old and always need help. My brothers and I are always right there to help them out. Its a nice neighborhood.

4. Empathy is being able to understand what someone else is going through. Empathy is helping others through their troubles. The last time I felt empathy for someone was today actually. I think its always good to be empathetic, it shows others you care about them. Yeah I think you can feel empathy for someone as well as anger and dislike; you can be mad at someone for something but at the same time you could understand where they are coming from;not always but sometimes. The world would probably be a sad place. No one would understand where the other person was coming from. People would probably be a lot more angry. The world probably wouldn’t be a great place.

6. Every once in a while I think everyone finds that personal differences can cause problems with others around you. I think that sometimes I can be intolerant of personal differences; sometimes you just get caught up in the moment. If it was a situation where i was upset with someone i could let the differences get in the way. Later on though I would probably look back and say I can’t believe i let that happen that was stupid; or what was I thinking. If someone were intolerant with a friend of mine I definately would stick up for them. My friends mean a lot to me and i would do anything for them!

Summer is my favorite time of year. I love the heat, camping trips, spending time with your friends, new adventures, and most of all no school! Every summer, since I was in first grade, my aunt and uncle have taken me on a trip. Every summer it’s a new adventure for me. A lot of these new adventures come with other new things, such as facing my fears. My most memorable trip was to Idaho; we went to the Silverwood theme park.
We drove for one long day. The weather was nice and I was excited. The truck was cramped and we were pulling the camp trailer behind us, which was nice so every once in a while we could make some stops and have snacks and a bathroom break if we really needed one. At the end of the day we came to our campsite. We could see the huge and exciting theme park from where we camped; it was right across the street. The next day was the day I would remember the best.
We woke up bright and early ready to get to the park. My family and I were ready for fun. The morning was chilly after breakfast. We walked through the underground tunnel that leads to Silverwood.
There were people everywhere! Little kids running, laughing, and screaming. Parents laughing and taking pictures. I was surrounded by my cousins and we were just gazing at all the rides trying to decide which ride we were going to go on first.
There were roller coasters that looked crazy, fast, and had straight downward drops. Some of the roller coasters even took your picture surprisingly while you were riding them. Many looked scary and I wasn’t willing to even go on them. The log ride looked wet, fun, and slow; which sounded perfectly fine with me. The roaring rapids looked pretty fun also, and a lot better than the roller coasters.
When walking from ride to ride you could smell cotton candy, hot dogs, and popcorn. The day got warmer; the sun was shining as bright as ever. The few clouds that were out looked like white cotton candy in the bright blue sky.
My first roller coaster I had ever ridden on was on this trip. After my uncle had begged me, I gave in and went on a very scary ride. When people saw the picture of my face, it was pale and I had the funniest look ever. My uncle was beside me with both hands in the air laughing and screaming. As for me, well I was holding on with all my might! After that ride was over I went on another roller coaster called the cork screw. It goes in many loops. I wasn’t scared anymore, I had faced my fear, and the first ride was over. Now all I ever want to do at theme parks is go on roller coasters.
All together it was a great vacation. Facing your fears may be very nerve racking but in the end it can have some positive outcomes. You can gain a lot by facing your fears. Not always will it be like mine where you gain the ability to love to ride roller coasters. It could lead to fun though. Every time you face your fears it gets easier. Once you do it gives you more confidence and faith in yourself to keep pushing forward and facing more fears. It’s always fun also, you get to go on many adventures.

Blog #4-Text Messaging

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steph at 8:05 am on Friday, April 11, 2008

I think that text messaging is great. I don’t have texting at the moment but maybe soon i’ll have it again. When i did have texting I sent more text messages than I know. I usually only would text at least two or three people. Text messaging doesn’t bother my writing. Sometimes I may start to write something in a shorter version but I always remember to change it. Text messaging in school is not wanted by many, if not all, teachers. Kids always do it anyways. I think that in our language text messaging is becomeing more of an everyday thing. There is even books out now that are wrote in text messages. Text messaging only affects communication slightly. Some people will use it but I don’t think that its that common. Text messaging is fine by me. I think its that way for many people and that teachers may just be parinoid by the fact that this is changing and they can’t all understand it.

Blog #2-Blogging

Filed under: Uncategorized — Steph at 8:08 am on Friday, April 4, 2008

To me blogging is like a journal of things you’ve done or want to do. Or of how you feel. I first heard of blogging in a book i read and the main character kept a blog that she updated almost every day. I am very comfortable with computers as in I love to type everyday i go on the internet and email or IM with friends. My opinion of writing is that most of the time I don’t enjoy it. Unless its something that i enjoy writing. I like to write to my friends. I don’t like to write essays or class writings very much. People are so concerned about kids’ safety with the internet because they think that kids will get in to something they shouldn’t and get caught up in a mess. Also online preditors are something that I here about a lot and Usually parents just don’t want to get you hurt. I honestly don’t think that the Internet is dangerous. Most people know how to use it and don’t give out the wrong information. My peers generally use the computer and Internet to go on myspace and talk or to write reports, but mainly myspace and emailing and a lot of the time instant messaging.
I think that the rest of the year in here with using the blog a lot in English will be okay. Maybe a little fun, but mostly since it will be to write out essay not all that fun since i don’t like to write essays but it will be okay.

I am still reading the book I know I’ve been changed by ReShonda Tate Billingsley. Right know Rae is still trying to work on her fairly tail life that will be the complete opposite of her life in Sweet Poke with her family that shes trying to leave behind. She has just gotten married to Myles who is running for mayor which Rae thinks is the perfect guy to go along with her perfect. So basically I learned that Rae is still going for the very best in life that she thinks will make a fairy tail life that is opposite from her life in Sweet Poke.

The book I choose to use as my reading book was I know I’ve been Changed a novel by Reshonda Tate Billingsley. Its about a young girl that has been abandoned by her mother. The story is about her 22 years later and how she left town when she was old enough so that she could have a better life and forget about what happened to her. The main character Rae Rollins is trying to forget her past life and her family now she is a big star and her family keeps calling her for money and wanting her to come back. Her mom is trying to get her daughter to forgive her but Rae doesn’t want to give in.
My cousin Angel recommended this book to me. I love to read and so its not hard for a book to catch my attention.
